The plight of the Koke frog!

The plight of the Koke frog!

I have been on the this island now for almost 20 years. It wasn’t until a couple months ago that I ever heard a Koke frog in Kona, They have came into Kona a lot like the Vog and street people have recently. But I am here to talk about the Puerto Rican frogs and have invaded Kona as of recent. Yes Puerto Rican is right. They are an evasive species that some how were brought here. Probably in someone’s suitcase a few years ago and now are numbered in the thousands.
So anyway, no matter how they got here, we have to deal with them now. I usually don’t mind them if there away’s away. This one that has been keeping me up and making lose sleep was right out my bedroom window. The sound is so loud that I can’t hear the myself think. This guy must really be horny because he is or was relentless. Yes the loud obnoxious sound is a mating call and this guy has been at it for weeks! I kinda feel bad for the guy that he’s been trying so hard for so long and he’s still alone. Well I don’t know maybe they females come by and see him during the day. Who knows? All I know is for the last week I have been trying different methods and nothing has worked, except for tonight.
I finally pin pointed where that little guy was. I have been spraying a coffee, baking powder mix all over the back yard for days. Someone told me that they don’t like the smell and will leave the area. I was out on the back porch like I did the last few days listening to where he could be and nothing. Tonight was different though. I lifted up a leaf and there he was! The little basterd that has been terrorizing me for weeks. I had my mixture in hand and I soaked him really good. I really didn’t want to kill him I just wanted him to go away.
Well it has been about 2 hours or so since I sprayed him and other than a couple peeps I haven’t heard him. I am so looking forward to crawling in bed and not having to worry about getting a good nite sleep tonight. So good night Mr. Koke and I hope you find a new home!
